This zine features writing and artwork by students in the associate degree program at SCI-Greene.
The WVU Humanities Center hosted a speaker series with “hope” as its grounding theme in 2025 - 2026. Katy Ryan asked students in her Performance Studies course at the prison if they might be interested in contributing to this on-campus conversation. Within a few weeks, students had generated poems, essays, and artwork on hope, and had invited others at the prison to contribute as well.
Sophie Slaughter, a senior at WVU and HEPI's Reentry Support Assistant, combined the contributions into this Hope Zine.
Inside, you'll see the cover of a pop-up booklet by Skinny Champ Skrilla. We created a short video of the booklet being opened, so you can see the inside as well.
